nerd alert: the lost crown
i play lots of video games... and i've decided to embrace this part of my personal life and add it to what i post here on harve & polly... it wont be overbearing - just sprinkled in here & there.. now & then.
Actually, more like every wednesday. you've officially been warned - here we go!
I don't know why - but lately I have been in the mood for something spooky.... and though i've discussed my gaming inclinations previously, they weren't of this ilk. I play some scary games from time to time (psychologically scary - not shoot 'em up zombies scary) - and The Lost Crown is one of my favorites.
Its got it all - ghosts, the sea, cemeteries, a small fishing town full of lore & interesting characters. it even has kitties! (but i will warn you that subplot does not end happily)
this isn't the scariest game i've ever played but its up there.
I have to play it during the day with all of the lights on.. I'll keep the scariest one for another day..
Lost Crown: A Ghost Hunting Adventure gets the Harve & Polly rating of 6/6 polly toes
and in keeping with harve & polly standards here are some items inspired by the game.
01/ lighthouse print $12.00 // 02/ leather notebook $30.00 // 03/ cemetery stone note card $3.00
04/ antique map of Britain $24.95 // 05/ toy sailboat $35.00 // 06/ black crow $40.00 // 07/ industrial salvage pulley $38.00
08/ spyglass $29.00 // 09/ butterfly specimen $14.95

mr. mustache
// from here |
AH! look at this dapper little man! have a great weekend everyone
Misselthwaite Manor
01/ skeleton key pendant $145.00 // 02/ melissa breeland print $18.50 // 03/ white bulb $13.00 // 04/ spyglass bracelet $32.99 // 05/ porcelain bone dishes $18.00 // 06/ antique pitcher $21.00 // 07/ bulbs $3.75 // 08/ sparrow watercolor $18.00
i feel a tad bit like mary lennox from the secret garden. Even though i don't get to spend the lingering moments of winter at Misselthwaite Manor... i am definitely searching for spring. digging though antique jewelry hidden in mismatched porcelain, finding skeleton keys and pigeons... looking for the way to sunshine... when all you really have to do is wait and it will find you. I am stubborn though (like mary) and instead of patience, i am searching.
in the meantime i'll try to keep my feet dry and my ears warm as i look for the door to the garden

rango
01/ purr-fect tipi $24.99 // 02/ fabric & handle $39.00 // 03/ poncho snuggie $54.99 // 04/ arrow wrap ring $35.00
05/ goldfish sharpener $11.99 for 4 // 06/ feather earrings $37.82 // 07/ bunnylope card $4.00 // 08/ trails lamp $49.99
09/ vintage canteen $12.00
went to see Rango yesterday.
it was a good movie - i say the 4/5 stars on imdb is pretty accurate - made me laugh... surprised to say it was kind of frightening for little children (and this idea was justified by all the crying and screaming in the theater during the more intense scenes)..
but the best part was the amount of detail. the owl with the mustache was a hoot (pun intended) and the overall western feel was really well done. i even liked the over the top type treatment in the end credits.
being from the great state of Texas (well, in my earlier years at least) i have a special place in my heart for cacti and armadillos. I also have had my fare share of lizards as pets over the years - so it may come as a big surprise i don't own any of the above items (ok ok i own the goldfish pencil sharpener)
enjoy these Rango inspired picks, and go see the movie for some laughs

Happy St. Patrick's day everyone! i do have an appreciation for green beer and chocolate gold coins - but it just so happens i am irish every day of the year... my childhood was filled with my dad singing 'my wild irish rose" & "too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ra" regardless of the proximity to the month of march. so in honor of being reasonably irish (other parts equaling danish & german) i have provided a few items that will help you remember your irish roots (whether you have them or not) all year round!

posh patchwork
i have always believed quilts could be approached in ways that made them modern and original (kimem is a great example .. i had little hope in the same way for patchwork until i saw these gorgeous examples at design by LEFTOVERS - they are moody, dark, elegant & scream rock star.

louis vuitton taxidermy
made it back from the big apple last night - and i was so glad to see my kitties (and smith too)
but while i was in NYC i saw the most amazing window display at Loius Vuitton
The display was created by Billie Achilleos & Cameleon Visual, and it is absolutely awesome.
it was super windy and cold that day - so forgive me if it's obvious i snapped these and ran to the warmth of the apple store. for some higher quality pics you can check out the Billie Achilleos blog

harve-zilla
taking a last minute trip to nyc this weekend into next week. polly will be glad to see me when i get back - but harve will be his quintessential cool and pretend he didn't even notice i was gone.
maybe if i get him this scratching post and let him live out his godzilla fantasies he wont be so bitter i didn't take him along on the trip.

wake up alice
01/ teapot $39.95 // 02/ chocolate mushrooms $sold // 03/ dodo mug $8.00 // 04/ pocket watch $55,000.00
05/ walrus pillow $60.00 // 06/ TEA mug $14.00 // 07/ playing card vectors $free
currently reading: alice i have been by melanie benjamin. the book begins from the perspective of 80 something alice liddell who the original alice in wonderland story was inspired by and written for.
she talks about how disappointed people are when they look at her, the embodiment of childhood itself, and watch her age.
As the book progresses it takes you through parts of Alice's life and shows the tragic results of becoming Alice in Wonderland. (this book is pure magic by the way - it will make you cry and rethink everything you know about wonderland)
well Alice Liddell, if you don't want to be Alice in Wonderland, its fine with me - in fact i wonder what your perfectly preserved self would think of things now. so vividly victorian and antique - the modern adaptations of alice rarely take her out of the oxford inspired elements. but i wonder what the looking glass would look like today, and if children are still so inspired by nature when they spend so much time indoors.
p.s. the real alice was a brunette.

i'm not going to lie to you, i love me some jonathan adler. I could go on all day about the diversity of his products, and how i love them all... this little guy lives with me, and i'm smitten with this lamp.
but today i want to admire how much attention to detail goes into the tiniest adler elements. i mean, look at that packaging - salt and pepper has never looked better.
